We recently witnessed the SEC Twitter account being hacked on the day of one of the most important decisions for Bitcoin and the crypto community, Bitcoin Spot ETF.

Airdrops are an opportunity for "free" crypto. That's why they can be the target of fraud and scams. That is why you should be especially careful when dealing with Airdrops.

Especially, accounts on social networks can become the target of attacks before the release of an actual Airdrop or during the release.

So how do we take steps to be as safe as possible?

📑 If you are familiar with the project:

• Always ensure that the project's social media accounts are secure, and if any suspicious activity is observed, refrain from interacting until the situation has been clarified by the project team or community.

• Always remember to verify any airdrop links directly from the project's official website and never rely solely on social media, as that can be compromised.

• Be focused - don't do things when you are tired and unfocused. " I'll just look at this on Twitter before bed". Don't do that. Experienced people often make mistakes in this kind of situation.

• The first step to remain safe is to ensure you're dealing with official, verified accounts. Check it twice.

• Always double-check URLs and account names for any misspellings or suspicious characters.

📑 If you are not so familiar with the project:

• Research thoroughly about the project, its team, and its credibility, and look for reviews from trusted sources in the crypto community.

• Make sure to understand the background of the project, its goals, and any information you can find about its past interactions with the community.

• Be skeptical of unexpected airdrops or ones that require personal information.

• Always cross-verify any information related to an airdrop with other reliable sources or community members before taking any action.

• If the offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Stay informed about common scams in crypto community forums and always exercise caution when dealing with crypto assets online.

Even when you're sure you're in an official safe place

Sometimes projects announce on Discord that their Twitter has been hacked, and sometimes it's the other way around.

In the crypto world, staying vigilant across different platforms is a must. If you find yourself on Discord or Twitter and notice that an official account linked to an Airdrop appears hacked, it's advisable to immediately step back. Maintain a strict policy of not clicking on any links from these accounts until their safety has been verified by the community or the project's official channels. Keep a tab on the project's other social media and communication sites for updates or announcements regarding such situations. It's always better to miss out on an opportunity than to fall into a trap that could potentially lead to loss of assets.

Lastly, consider using hardware wallets for storing your crypto assets, as they provide an additional layer of security and can help protect you from falling victim to these hacking incidents. 🧷
