Reading Abundance & they actually have a nice little section on the 30-year mortgage:
The 30-year mortgage was possible only because the federal government guaranteed it. They claim that 30-year mortgage (which truly is kind of a crazy thing when you think about it) would never have stood up in a free market w/o gov't support.
They also point to Japan (Tokyo in particular) trying 50 – 100 year mortgages to make housing more “affordable”, which led to a crazy spike in property values, then a big time collapse in values that haven't recovered three decades later.
Agree w/ @brandondonnelly.eth that longer mortgages will likely lead to higher property values & more risk in the housing market.

This is an excellent post on writing.
I've been thinking about how my relationship to writing & reading has changed as we move deeper into an LLM world.
One notion I'm gravitating toward: writing continues to be a valuable way to clarify your thoughts, opinions, desires, frustrations, etc.
In that light, I think writing will continue to be a meaningful craft, albeit maybe one that's more selfishly important, maybe more inward vs. writing to be read by others.

Lots of excellent nuggets in here...
I really wonder how much of the experience economy (which I'm very bullish on) will happen online vs. IRL.
99% of it is I'm just getting old, but I find a lot of our hang out spaces online aren't as much fun, and I find myself looking for IRL experiences vs. better online alternatives.
I love the idea of spontaneity, unpredictability, bringing folks together over shared interests. Would love to hear any examples of these types of experiences online!

One reason I’m excited about these types of features:
Most writers and readers are still deeply rooted in web2 platforms with *incredibly powerful* network effects.
These network effects won't disappear over night.
But if people experience magic without changing what they're doing, the tide can start to shift.

- create an account by signing in w/ FC -> with the right permissions, any crosspost could be shared immediately to FC feed -> more visibility, discussion, and earnings for your writing - compelling monetization features -> our focus for 2H of 2025 and beyond is finding a way for writers to get paid in new ways that are 10x+ better than sponsorships, paid subscriptions, and Medium-like payments

A lot of top writers I've interviewed or worked with started for some reason not even close to making money.
Many use some flavor of wanting to "increase their surface area of luck". Writing on the internet is a great way to meet new amazing people.
Some write to clarify their thoughts.
Some do it bc it's fun! Or they enjoy the craft & creative process.
Some want to leave something behind, or to pass along learnings & insights to earlier versions of themself.
Writing on the internet can be a vulnerable act, and it can be an absolute slog in the beginning when you don't have any audience. The writers that keep at it are usually motivated by something beyond money.

One of the potential hurdles of everything being a coin is that it requires people to make a lot of decisions — especially when to buy, but with tokens also when to hold & sell.
This is an underrated reason why bundles outperform a-la-carte products, or why subscriptions outperform micro- & one-off payments.
