Games for Change day at London Games Festival
This month, we headed to London for something that felt very us: Games for Change day at the London Games Festival. Originally we were planning to attend the main event in New York last year, but timing (and budgets) had other ideas. So when we saw it land in the UK for the first time, we didn’t hesitate to grab some tickets. For context, Games for Change is a global non-profit focused on using games for social good. It brings together developers, educators, researchers, policymakers, and org...

Empathy in Action
Greetings folks! it's been a minute but what a month! This update isn’t about a new mechanic, nor a grant update, or some leader board tweak or a physics overhaul. It’s about people. Specifically students, and more specifically students with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). Over the past month, I’ve had the privilege of running game development workshops in secondary schools and colleges with students of mix levels and abilities.

Gaming in Small Doses
By Ceri – R&D project lead at Hangry Animals If you're new here: I’m one-half of Hangry Animals, and we’re on a mission to make games that help real animals. But before we build them, we’re doing our homework. We’re deep in R&D, asking big questions like: How can games teach kindness? What makes kids want to help others while they play? Can 30 minutes of gaming a day actually be good for young people? Turns out – yes. In fact, the benefits of short, age-appropriate play sessions are more interesting than we thought!

Shaping the (Hangry) Soul of a Character
Hi everyone, Ceri here - your friendly COO, Creative Strategist, and part-time animal-whisperer for the Hangryverse. In this month’s guest spot, I wanted to share one of the quieter, but surprisingly powerful, tools we used to shape our characters and storylines: personality profiling. Now, I’ve run profiling workshops for real people (teams, students, clients) more times than I can count. But doing it for fictional, animal-human hybrid characters? That was a first. And it turns out… it works...

Development Update: Choctagons for the win
Hey Hangry Fam, We’re back with another behind-the-scenes dev drop after a week of R&R, and this one’s got chocolate flying everywhere.👀 First Person Mode? You Bet. We’ve been experimenting with interior delivery challenges, and something’s clicked. Literally. Certain moments in NomNom Express now flip into a first-person perspective, letting you hurl your non-essential food items (looking at you, Choctagons) straight into the faces of unsuspecting (and often claw laden) enemies. We’re toying...

Purpose Meets Play - How Small Studios Can Build Games That Matter
Hey Hangry Fam, Lately we’ve been deep in development mode, testing, breaking and banging many heads against soft walls! (Games are Hard to get right) — but also keeping one ear to the ground on where games, impact, and purpose are starting to intersect in exciting ways. Last week, I attended a few standout webinars around sustainable game development and socially impactful design — and it left me inspired (and honestly, reassured) that the direction we’re taking with Hangry Animals is exactly...
