The DAO hack on June 17, 2016 drained ~$150 million from the project's smart contracts. ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ
Its recovery led to Ethereum's contentious hard fork into Ethereum (ETH) and Ethereum Classic (ETC).๐ด
As a result, all ETH holders received ETC, The DAO hack victims recovered their ETH, and the hacker walked away with a bag of ETC.
Ten years later, TheDAO Fund activated over 75,000 ETH in residual funds, nearly matching the $150m raised in 2016 (at current prices), to fund Ethereum security. ๐ก๏ธ
It's an intriguing story. ๐คฏ
