This is Farcaster.

I really wanted to be at Farcaster Rome, but couldn't. So [@arjantupan](https://farcaster.xyz/arjantupan) got some postcards ready and had 15 of the 37 sign a greeting to me and sent them across the pond from Paris. It took weeks, but a couple of days ago I opened it, and my heart was full with friendship from 17 people, most of whom I've never met.

Thank you arjan and these 15 others for doing something intentional in a fast-paced world and being part of a memory I won't forget:

I suspect the popular story of blockchain/web 3 likely won't include [@betrmint](https://farcaster.xyz/betrmint) , but it should.

In these early days, when so much was talked about and promised...but not delivered... [@betrmint](https://farcaster.xyz/betrmint) delivers every day. $80,000 to creators & artists, $75,000 to the community that supports them. Think about that.

And the last few months have amplified this even more. In the depths of the bear, [@betrmint](https://farcaster.xyz/betrmint) seems unfazed. I'm sure it's not, but we could never tell.

I've noticed something in keeping up with both sides of the fork talk, and I'm wondering if I'm the only one...

To me, it often reads more like the fork is happening from Facebook than Farcaster.

What I mean is: If you scrubbed the details & names, my impression is that it's about decentralization vs. centralization, it's about doing things for the people vs. doing things for power, and sometimes it even feels like it's the good guys vs the bad guys.

That doesn't pass the sniff test for me. I think both sides want decentralization and want to disrupt the old way of doing things, but they have different ways of going about it and getting there. I don't love this impression I get from keeping up with the discussion from a wide range of posts I've read. Anyone else?

I don't think we can change it at this point. But I think we should be very aware of it. Don't let the narrative distort your thinking about this amazing place we share and are building.

\\* Tell your story about your project or what you are building--talk like people don't know you or FC or web3...introduce what you are about, what problem you are solving, why people should care, what you are helping people do and how

I heard this week that great men aren't introspective (I think from a popular a16z interview maybe?). But I'm wondering if it's OK if I introspect occasionally, without being introspective?

I've heard the word introspective and used it many, many times in my life, but I've never used or read the word introspect until tonight from [@word-a-day](https://farcaster.xyz/word-a-day) mini app.

I mean you can correct without being corrective.
You can suggest without being suggestive.
So, I'm thinking I'm good to go to introspect without being introspective and therefore...still have a shot at being a great man. 🤷‍♂️

Today is one of the greatest sports days of the year as March Madness begins. While many will passionately root for their favorite teams, I will spend the day ambivalent about who wins many of these games. To be clear, it's not that I don't care who wins; it's that I'm torn with reasons to want both teams to win.

On the one hand, the big underdogs pulling off an upset is one of the great moments in sports. A few years ago, we had the first 16 seed take down a number 1 seed. So often, a small school nobody's ever heard of beats one of the blue bloods. So that's great, and I want that to happen.

On the other hand, I have filled out multiple brackets and want to see my bracket do well. These upsets are 'bracket busters' and take down the teams that we have going to the Final 4.

So, I'm often torn in these games. I want the upsets, but I want my bracket to do well. But anyway, here's to the Madness 🍻 🏀

Not to disagree with the Queen of Farcaster and the builder of the [@word-a-day](https://farcaster.xyz/word-a-day) mini app, but ... I don't think of Farcaster as an erudite place.

Farcasters are street smart. There is nothing academic about them. They are building and doing things. I don't know exactly where the erudite tech people hang out, but I think they are in my inbox. They are in newsletters listing 21 articles they are reading, pontificating on what will happen with AI, and predicting the next big tech idea.

I prefer my smarts in jeans and a hoodie.

I've noticed that the regular group of people playing [@word-a-day](https://farcaster.xyz/word-a-day) are conscientious and diligent about how they play the game.

[@jacy](https://farcaster.xyz/jacy) is telling meaningful stories about her life and always JUST before the deadline. [@digitaldogg](https://farcaster.xyz/digitaldogg) uses a gm cast at the same time every day with the day's word. I am using a particular style for all of my casts, and others have gotten into a rhythm and practice that they don't deviate from.

Beyond that we have Farcasters noting the part of speech, as well as paying careful attention to the definition so they use is correctly in a cast. Not to mention, needing to click the accept challenge button every day so that your cast counts.

Who knew that a mini app could create suggest a meticulous bunch of 'worders'--is that what we are calling them?

The Paralympics are a profound display of the power of the human spirit.

A completely blind person can ski the slalom. Players with no legs can play hockey on 'scooters' better than we could on skates. Humans with all kinds of disabilities can not only overcome them but also master a skill and achieve more than most of us combined.

Makes me think about what I battle and don't overcome in my cushy American life.

Makes me think about what we 'battle' here--red markets and projects closing--and we end up bickering and giving up instead of building something better in the next chapter.

Today, I'm reminded there's more power in the human spirit than we are displaying, thanks to some true athletes in Milan-Cortina.

It might be a bit of an obscure market for Polymarket, but there really should be a prediction market on how long it will take for me to recover & correctly use the bookmark action without hitting 'ask neynar' first.

I have a feeling I'm in the upper tier of using Farcaster bookmarks, and putting 'ask neynar' in the place of 'bookmark' is a big blow to my muscle memory. 😆 🤷‍♂️

While things have slowed down here of Farcaster, I find myself checking the Word A Day mini app with alacrity at 8 PM EST every day.

And I've noticed I'm not alone. I saw a cast yesterday with someone saying they were frustrated that Daylight Savings delayed the release of the new word by 1 hour. That's the kind of eagerness that [@adrienne](https://farcaster.xyz/adrienne) has created in her 'worders.'

I could be wrong but I don’t think Farcaster is forking.

I don’t think users have to make a choice.

Quorum is forking off the Farcaster protocol and the only people that need to do anything is those that so highly value ‘decentralization’ as defined by Cassie and Quorum. 🤷‍♂️

I could be wrong.

Seems like 97% of users will do nothing and it will feel like 50 good people left FC. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not mad. I'm unaffected, as are most of you. But I can't help but recoil at the quick trigger after all the vague slogans.

One of the many reasons 'Base is for \_\_\_\_\_\_' & 'If you create, you will be rewarded' etc., without substance, is not a good way to tell your story. Now your trustworthiness is in the dumpster.

We need to overhaul how we tell our story in this space.
