GNAR CONNECT RIO brought together skateboarding, art, music, print, film and community in the same space. It happened in Rio de Janeiro at Lado B, with a program shaped by people already building inside this scene.

The night marked a series of releases and milestones: Vlad’s birthday, the launch of his Soma Skateshop signature deck, the release of the GNARS × NOGENTA collaboration, the premiere of the new NOGENTA skate film, the launch of NOGENTA ZINE 01, and the opening of a new Skatehive mini ramp.

GNAR CONNECT gave all of that a common ground. More than an event, it worked as a live snapshot of what the Gnars ecosystem looks like in practice: builders organizing, local scenes connecting, cultural work being released in public, and people gathering around something real.

What GNAR CONNECT Holds Together

GNAR CONNECT is a physical meeting point for a broader network that already exists across skateboarding, open-source culture, independent publishing, design and Web3. The format matters because it gives that network a place, a rhythm and a public face.

The Luma event page framed the night as a gathering around launches and premieres. That was true, but incomplete. GNAR CONNECT RIO also showed how decentralized communities grow when the work moves beyond chat rooms and feeds into places, objects, media and relationships.

Why This Night Mattered

Vlad organized GNAR CONNECT RIO around several milestones that were already in motion. His birthday gave the event a personal center. The Soma signature deck anchored it in skateboarding. Thee event brought a product collaboration into the room. The film premiere and zine launch expanded the night into media and documentation. The mini ramp opening gave the gathering a lasting physical result.

Taken together, those elements showed how a decentralized cultural network actually operates. Releases are part of it. So are friendship, local organization, physical space and repeated presence.

Lado B

Lado B gave the event the right setting. It works as a cultural space with room for skateboarding, exhibitions, music, conversation and independent programming. That combination shaped the tone of the night from the beginning.

The place matters because scenes need places. They need somewhere to meet, screen work, launch products, build structures and stay in circulation. Lado B held all of that at once.

The second floor of Lado B featured an exhibition by Mano.Wlad, showcasing a selection of works that reflect his visual language and connection to skateboarding, urban culture, and independent art. The exhibition remains open to the public Wednesday through Saturday, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at Rua Primeiro de Março, 14 – Centro, Rio de Janeiro.

Mini Ramp Opening

The new mini ramp gave the event a physical center and left something behind that will keep working after the crowd goes home.

Skate scenes grow around places that people return to. It gives skaters a reason to come back, session after session. That kind of infrastructure matters because it builds continuity at street level.

GNARS × NOGENTA

The GNARS × NOGENTA collaboration came out of a shared visual language shaped by skateboarding, DIY graphics, publishing and local identity. The products felt aligned with the room they were launched in.

That alignment gave the collection weight. It read as part of a broader scene, not as a detached drop. The graphics, materials and presentation carried the tone of the collaboration clearly.

Created by builders Yan Felipe and Humberto Peres, representing Nogenta, the Street audiovisual collective, and Barracão Skate Shop, was officially launched during GNAR CONNECT. Developed through Gnars DAO Proposal , the collection explores creative products as a tool for expanding the DAO's cultural reach while generating sustainable revenue through the creative economy. It reflects Gnars' approach to supporting builders by transforming community-driven ideas into tangible products with long-term ecosystem value.

Soma Signature Deck

Vlad’s Soma Skateshop signature deck gave the night a direct connection to his own path inside skateboarding. Signature decks carry recognition, history and local meaning. This one landed in the right setting.

It also kept the event grounded in skateboarding as practice, not just reference. The deck was part of the night’s visual field, but it also carried the story of who organized it and why people showed up.

NOGENTA ZINE 01

The release of NOGENTA ZINE 01 added a print layer to the night. That mattered because print still gives scenes a durable way to document themselves. A zine can circulate by hand, stay on shelves and move outside platform logic.

For skate culture, that format still holds value. It gives photography, text and sequencing a different pace. It also turns a moment into something people can take home and revisit.

The premiere of the NOGENTA skate film brought moving image into the center of the event. Skate films do more than record tricks. They document rhythm, architecture, style, friendship and the way a local scene sees itself.

Watching the film inside Lado B gave it the right context. The crowd on site was part of the same environment the film came from. That made the screening feel connected to the room instead of separate from it.

Music, Friends and Social Infrastructure

The night moved through DJ sets, rock, food, conversation, birthdays, product tables, skate sessions and people crossing paths. Builders, artists, skaters and friends occupied the same space without needing a rigid structure around them.

There is also a longer history behind that room. This family of skaters and artists has been building together for years through the XV collective and other projects. That shared path gives GNAR CONNECT RIO more depth. It shows a network that has stayed together through different phases, different projects and different moments across roughly fifteen years.

Skateboarding is a strong foundation inside that story. It keeps this tribe connected over time, even as the formats around it change. Shops, films, zines, events, music, brands and collaborations come and go, but the skate bond remains active and keeps people moving together.

That social layer is part of what keeps scenes alive. Projects continue because people know each other, trust each other and keep meeting in real life. GNAR CONNECT RIO made that visible.

Marcelo Marbal’s 50th birthday added another thread to the atmosphere and widened the timeline inside the room. Different generations, roles and practices shared the same space. That gave the night more depth.

Gnars DAO in Practice

GNAR CONNECT RIO showed one clear side of Gnars DAO: support for builders, local communities and action sports culture through real-world work. The result was visible in the ramp, the collaboration, the zine, the film, the deck, the space and the people who filled it.

This is part of what decentralized public goods can look like when they connect to culture directly. Not only online coordination, but spaces, products, documentation, friendships and repeated activity around a shared scene.

The same ecosystem also leaves room for surfing, art, publishing, music, physical product design, technology and open-source thinking. GNAR CONNECT brought those threads into the same frame.

Gnars Bounties is a new lane for small onchain grants built to keep the wheels turning.

This is a place where you can create a bounty if you have an idea that deserves backing, or jump into a bounty that is already live if you have the skills to make it real.

That means tricks. Clips. Edits. Photos. Design. DIY builds. Weird gnarly creations that nobody saw coming. If it pushes culture forward, it belongs in the mix.

We’re launching this new phase in partnership with POIDH, shout out to Kenny for helping spark it.

The point is simple: keep small grants moving through the community and support as many real athletes, makers, and unexpected destroyers as possible.

Skate Across Africa shifts that scale.

What began as a Gnars proposal became a continental mission led by Isaac Jojinah, Ephraim Ssekiziyivu, and Jason “Jaayfilms” Vanporppal. The route runs from Uganda toward South Africa, combining long-distance travel, community contact, and continuous documentation.

The result is an athlete-led project operating at the intersection of skateboarding, media production, and onchain coordination.

Onchain to road to impact

The mission came into the Gnars ecosystem through governance.

After an earlier version stalled, the idea returned stronger as Gnars Proposal 108 — “SKATE ACROSS AFRICA (EAST COAST - SOUTH COAST)”, and it passed into execution with a clean mandate from the DAO.

The proposal framed the route clearly: Uganda → Rwanda → Tanzania → Zambia → Botswana → South Africa.

The proposal was not centered only on distance.

Its broader objective was to connect skate communities across borders, bring new participants into the orbit of Gnars, and document the trip as a cultural route rather than a single campaign. In practice, the mission positions governance as a funding tool for field work, mobility, and public-facing cultural production.

Who is pushing gnarly

Isaac Jojinah

Isaac is a co-founder and Executive Director of the Kampala Skateboard Initiative (KSI). In the proposal, his role is tied to vision, strategy, workshops, and international relations. His involvement places the mission within an existing structure of skate community building in Uganda rather than treating it as a one-off appearance.

Ephraim Ssekiziyivu

Ephraim, also a co-founder of KSI, works as a skater, creative director, filmer, and community organizer. His role in the mission is both operational and editorial, linking the road narrative to the local scene-building work that already exists in Uganda.

Jason “Jaayfilms” Vanporppal

Jaayfilms brings long-distance travel experience and a strong documentation background. The proposal references his earlier skate journeys across the USA and Japan, which gives the project a media dimension beyond endurance alone.

Together, the three combine local leadership, route execution, and distribution capacity .

Traditional action sports funding is usually organized through a brand-to-rider model. Skate Across Africa follows a different structure: the community backs the mission through governance, the athletes execute it in public, and the value generated is distributed across documentation, visibility, community contact, and long-term cultural positioning.

On the ground: Road Logic

By late April, the mission had already generated enough traction to break outside the immediate Gnars/Nouns bubble.

A recent feature in Botswana Gazette described the trio as skating roughly 6,437 km from Kampala toward Cape Town, with the mission tied to a broader dream of building the biggest skatepark in Africa and expanding youth impact through skateboarding.

The reporting also makes clear that this has not been a polished or frictionless route.

According to the crew, Tanzania was one of the hardest sections, marked by mud, dirt roads, and difficult terrain. That detail gives the project material weight and helps separate it from a purely promotional narrative.

The same article also shows where the mission stood in real time: after passing through places including Zambia and Botswana, the crew was nearing the South Africa leg, but hit a logistical disruption when Isaac and Ephraim needed to return to Uganda to handle visa requirements, while Jaay kept pushing solo toward Johannesburg before reuniting later.

This is where the project becomes more legible as reporting material: it involves border logistics, physical strain, route instability, and ongoing adaptation rather than a closed campaign format.

There is a clean way to tell the story of Monik Santos, and then there is the real way. The real version starts far from the polished center of Brazilian surf. It starts in the Northeast, where talent has always existed in heavy quantity but access, sponsorship, travel budget, and institutional opportunity have not. That gap matters. It shapes careers before they even begin.

By the time Monik entered the Gnars orbit in 2024, alongside her sister Nicole “Cocole” Santos, she was already carrying the profile of a proven competitor: a two-time Brazilian champion, a surfer with QS/WSL results on the board, and an athlete whose game had already been tested under pressure. What Gnars recognized was not a prospect in development, but a real shredder whose trajectory matched the original logic of the DAO: support athletes who need the push, do the work, and actually represent the culture they claim to stand for.

The Infrastructure Behind the Athlete

To understand Monik’s rise, you also have to understand the ecosystem around her. One of the key forces in that story is Todas Para o Mar (TPM), a project organized by Nuala Costa and rooted in the Northeast of Brazil. TPM exists to make visible what the surf industry has historically treated as invisible: Black surfers, girls, peripheral athletes, and the broader field of talent excluded by race, gender, geography, and class.

Costa’s work is not decorative activism. It is structural. Her advocacy around anti-racism, LGBTQIAP+ visibility, and women’s voice in surfing has given practical shape to a broader movement. Her invitation to speak in the context of the ONU Universal Declaration of Human Rights event in Mexico City underlined the scale of that impact, but the more important point is local and material: she directly helped Monik and many other girls and boys from the Northeast who have the level, yet not the same resource base or access points as athletes from Brazil’s traditional centers.

In surf terms, this matters because progression is never just about technique. It is about wave count, travel rhythm, contest repetition, and the support systems that allow a surfer to stay in the water long enough for talent to mature into results. TPM has been part of that support architecture.

Gnars, Consistency, and the Work Beyond Crypto

Monik did not come from crypto. That was never the point.

What mattered was how she entered the Gnars universe and stayed active inside it. She posted, represented, showed up, and kept the relationship alive not through empty branding, but through performance in the water and presence outside it. In a space where many athletes pass through DAO language without building any real connection to the community, Monik stayed consistent.

That consistency is meaningful inside Gnars. She is one of the few shredders who remained active, visible, and supportive of the DAO over time. That alone makes her important. But more than that, her trajectory reflects a founding principle of Gnars: backing athletes who are under-resourced, culturally aligned, and capable of converting support into actual movement.

This is the difference between sticker placement and representation. Monik has carried Gnars with legitimacy.

The Domestic Run That Opened the Next Door

After becoming part of Gnars, Monik kept doing what serious competitors do: she stacked performances. Her campaign through Brazilian events reinforced the case that she belonged in larger, more institutional competitive spaces. That momentum led to one of the most relevant steps in Brazilian surfing today: an opportunity to compete on the Dream Tour.

In current Brazilian surf, the Dream Tour is not just another stop. It is the country’s most credible and organized national championship environment, bringing together legacy names, institutional weight, and the corporate side of the sport in a single circuit. To earn the right to line up there is to enter a higher tier of scrutiny. It means the surfing has to hold up, not just the story around it. Monik earned that lane.

Huntington Beach, Global Black Surf, and the Podium Signal

Then came another important marker. After winning the 2024 Great Day in the Stoke event in Huntington Beach, California, Monik did more than collect a title. She inserted herself into an international movement and a global field of Black surfers from countries including Senegal, Nigeria, and beyond.

That event carries symbolic and competitive weight. It is about visibility, lineage, and the creation of a shared platform for Black surfers who have too often been sidelined in the mainstream surf narrative.

In 2025, Monik was invited back, and she delivered again. Alongside names such as Yanca Costa and Potira Castaman, she reached the final and split the podium with a North American surfer, once more standing inside the broader movement of Black surfers making their presence impossible to ignore.

The scene operates independently, with skaters handling filming, editing, and distribution, while also building and maintaining DIY spots. Progression is visible in both technical level and output, with a steady stream of footage coming out of different parts of the country.

What’s happening is structured through repetition, access, and adaptation a grounded, street-focused scene defining itself through use of space and consistency on the board.

Led by Shredder and lensman fernandoferreira.eth, a name already stamped in both skate and visual culture, this initiative aims to capture India’s skateboarding scene at scale, something no one has done with real cohesion before.

Mumbai alone is estimated to have over 30,000 skaters. Let that sink in.

From Bangalore to Delhi, Jaipur to the in-betweens, DIY parks, street spots, and community-driven projects are shaping a scene that’s both gritty and deeply connected. It’s not polished, and that’s exactly why it matters.

ON THE GROUND: GWALIOR HEAT

Perched on top of a small building, on the edge of the monochrome city of Gwalior, sits one of the most vibrant underground pockets in the country: the Gwalior Sickness Centre (GSC).

GSC is where everything collides skateboarding, music, graffiti, tattoos, and whatever else shows up with intent. It’s the kind of place you don’t plan to find, but once you do, it sticks with you.

Last November, the crew pulled up for Chambal Mein Rumble ; three days of pure cultural overload.

Skaters, tattoo artists, musicians, dancers, writers, all packed into one rooftop ecosystem. Days blurred into nights. Everyone slept under the same tent, right above the park. A bonfire kept conversations alive through the cold. Downstairs, inside the skateshop, DJs and live bands pushed the energy into full chaos, sweaty, loud, and completely unfiltered.

No barriers. No gatekeeping. Just community in its rawest form.

Fernando will be hitting Chennai to capture the local skate scene in all its raw energy. Expect fast lines, creative tricks, and authentic moments as he documents the city’s rising skaters. Growing skateboarding culture in the city of Hyderabad, India. Over the past decade this subculture has evolved from a small fringe group into a vibrant, community‑driven movement.

While India still lacks widespread public skateparks, dedicated crews and grassroots groups like Hyderabad Skaters and sk8hyd have been building momentum by organizing meet‑ups, practice sessions, and community workshops.

One of the core hubs for the scene is WallRide Park, an asphalt pump track and skate/BMX facility on Chevella Road that attracts riders from around the region and even hosts competitions, making it one of the most important skate spots in South India.

What’s notable about Hyderabad’s skate culture is how inclusive and self‑organized it has become. Groups like Girls Skate Hyderabad are creating space for women and queer skaters in what has traditionally been a male‑dominant environment, reshaping who gets to ride and how community is built.

In essence, Hyderabad Skate represents a young, hungry, DIY spirit, skaters navigating limited infrastructure and making the most of urban spots, while steadily expanding the sport’s footprint in India and beyond.

As Fernando puts it: "Going there and photographing this raw, authentic scene is definitely one of the things that drives me."

1. Origins

Everything started years ago with a simple but radical proposal by Pharra and Vlad (sktbrd) from the XV Collective. The idea was clear: build skate obstacles rooted in DIY culture, open-source thinking, and real street energy, later becoming one of the earliest onchain-born physical experiments within Gnars DAO.

2. Open-Source as a Weapon

One of the first Gnars droposals was an open-source PDF created by Pharra, documenting how to build a Nogglesrail. This document enabled replication across cities and countries, turning a single idea into a global, permissionless skate infrastructure.

Following the creation of the first Noggles Rails, the expansion of Noggles presence into additional action sports became inevitable evolving beyond traditional skate handrails into a broader modular obstacle system.

This led to the development of fully branded Noggles wakeboard ramps, Megaramp and Thrasher Mag, a snowboard grind tube deployed in Japan, the Noggles Delta selected through an onchain Gnars DAO vote among four proposed obstacle models, and other activations that further nounified physical infrastructure translating decentralized consensus into tangible cultural impact.

DIY, Onchain, Alive

Nogglesrails or Nounstacles prove that onchain coordination can materialize into "concrete", skateable infrastructure. Through cash for tricks, events, exposition, Gnars contests, viral Instagram clips, and global replication, the project keeps the DIY spirit alive while spreading Noggles culture in a way no traditional brand or institution could. To close it out, it’s worth remembering that Thrasher Magazine’s Skater of the Year went to the skater who finally conquered El Toro with an iconic 360 flip after years of attempts, a reminder that perseverance, commitment, and raw skateboarding still define what SOTY means, Congrats Chris Joslin. Gnars Parkour

Katwe Parkour Culture (KPC) is a community-led initiative founded by Raki in Kampala, Uganda. They use parkour as a tool to inspire, uplift, and provide youth with a positive outlet through movement. In Katwe, there are no formal parkour spaces, yet young athletes train daily in tough conditions, proving their passion and resilience.

Last week, Raki traveled all the way to Turkey to represent atchampionship of parkour (Proposal 95). Check it out, the shredder delivered an outstanding performance with unique lines, securing the gold medal at the Bosphorus Parkour Championship in Turkey.

The Nounish sports obstacles began with skateboarding the Nogglesrails and have since expanded into other disciplines, with slaps for snowboarding, jumps for wakeboarding, and more. Now, a new parkour obstacle is being built, carrying forward this creative Nounish architecture.

Ipatinga Skatepark Gnarly and Based

Between D.I.Y. spirit, skatepark rebuilds, and community grit, the Nounish world takes shape as a playground of creativity, onchain culture, and shared progression.

The installation of the Noggle Rail at Itapetininga Skatepark was both symbolic and functional. More than just a new obstacle, it now stands as a permanent testament to the collaboration between grassroots skateboarding, urban culture, and the Web3 community.

As a professional skateboarder and president of the Skate Transforma Vidas project, I see this initiative (Proposal 89) as a meaningful milestone. Our connection with Gnars began with Proposal 37, when we traveled to Uganda delivering essential donations to support five local communities. That mission sparked an ongoing link between Brazil and Uganda through skateboarding, now strengthened by this onchain and IRL collaboration - Garcia

Update for Nouns DAO's financials, Transparency around the DAO’s financials has always been a priority, and this update provides the community with a clearer view into the specifics.

As a subDAO of Nouns DAO, Gnars continues developing projects in parallel, pushing the Nounish spirit to its fullest and nurturing this culture. In June last year, we ran another open skateboard trick contest, which received 12 submissions and was won by web-gnar (who happens to be associated with Gnars as well).

What’s special about poidh is that it allows people to pool money for bounties, 100% onchain, 100% decentralized (so no one loses access to their funds until the bounty is confirmed).

If we can keep incentivizing fun activities that generate great content, I think there’s a big opportunity to showcase how crowdfunding with crypto can become a breakthrough app for the industry. Imagine a $10,000 bounty for someone to break a skateboarding world record, all incentivized and confirmed 100% onchain. Or fans crowdfunding a bounty for a specific skater to claim if they win gold at the Olympics. We want to use onchain value to move people towards specific goals, and there’s no better team than Gnars to help us figure out the best way to do that in the skateboarding world.

Directed by Yan Felipe, the documentary follows artist PHARRA XV over several months, chronicling the design and creation of this latest Nogglestacle. NogglesDelta - Nounstacle

On April 12, 2025, the sculpture NOUNSTACLE 2.0 – NOGGLES DELTA, created by Pharrá Buarque (Tangente Skateparks), was officially unveiled. This piece is the second in a series forming an open-air skateable art gallery, blending skateboarding, art, and digital culture.

It was a true celebration of decentralized urban culture, where Gnars DAO once again showcased its impact by supporting creative, inclusive initiatives shaping the future of skateboarding worldwide.

With support from Gnars DAO, the event featured the “ Tricks for Decks” challenge with Ionir Mera, the premiere of the video “Dissidente”, aerial footage by mauricionavaskt, music by djsaquax, and a Web3 onboarding campaign led by SkateHive.

Farcon New York 2025

The FarCon 2025 in New York, held from May 1st to 4th, was a landmark event for the Farcaster community and Web3 culture. With over a thousand participants, the event featured hackathons, lectures, and activations like the Haus of Nouns, OFFCHAIN NYC 2025 (organized by Higher), and the Offchain Skate Jam, blending skate and decentralized technology.

There was also a live broadcast highlighting digital and decentralized culture, reinforcing the connection between creators and developers. The event solidified FarCon as a hub for innovation and collaboration in the Web3 space.

Gnars Acessory - Lil Nouns

Last month, Lulu aka NekoFar, known as the King of GIFs, submitted and executed a special proposal with the support of the Lil Nouns partners. The idea? To add the iconic Gnars accessory as a new trait in the Lil Nouns collection.

The proposal was approved with 450 votes in favor and none against, reflecting not only strong consensus but also the growing synergy between the Nouns DAO subDAOs. The collaboration between Gnars and Lil Nouns is a clear example of how respect, creativity, and community spirit can translate into concrete and stylish actions.

IMF Launch: A New Era for Onchain Community Capital

On May 6th at 11:00 PM, GAMI and the IMF team officially launched the IMF (Internet Monetary Fund) via livestream, introducing a powerful shift in how communities engage with capital onchain.

In crypto, the default action has always been to sell—whether to fund an idea, gain liquidity, or manage risk. But selling kills momentum, fragments communities, and drains value. IMF flips this narrative by offering an alternative: borrowing instead of selling.

The IMF isn’t a grant program or a yield farm. Gnarstic Architecture

Over the past month, we’ve seen some truly gnarly accomplishments that took Nounish energy to new heights, sports, skateable, and downright monumental. We’re talking about Nounstacles, NogglesRails, and other public goods bringing life to skateparks that need it most. All of it rolled out alongside parties, events, and community vibes that push the manifesto of skate and sport even further. These aren’t just proposals, they’re gifts to the culture. D.I.Y

AppCon 2025, held during Milan Design Week (April 7–13), showcased the intersection of innovation, design, and technology and NounsDAO made its mark. One of the highlights was the launch of a brand new Nogglesrail, adding yet another spot to the global map, this time in Italy, planting the Nounish flag firmly in Europe.

The project was led by builder Jacopo, in partnership with NounsDAO and Gnars, bringing street culture, skateboarding, and public goods into the heart of Milan. Other builders like Fatty were also present, contributing to the vibrant and collaborative energy of the event. AppCon served as a creative hub to display apps, art, and products from the Nouns ecosystem, all in a truly nounish way.

Gnars 7capas

7Capas is making a strong return to print after 7 years, blending traditional media with the digital world to further strengthen the Latin American skateboarding scene.

This month, 7Capas approved a special proposal for a printed edition of the magazine, featuring an exclusive article about the Styland trip, led by one of the builders from Gnars.

Names like Zima, Fernando Ferreira, Vlad, Will Dias, Dino, Willy Wonka, and Highlander are part of this special edition, which includes a full article covering the experience at Devcon Thailand 2024 — packed with skateboarding, culture, and fun.

A total of 2,000 copies will be printed and distributed across more than 40 skateshops, cafés, and art galleries throughout Argentina. Additionally, 100 copies will be sent to friends of Gnars and Nouns around the world.

Over the past few months, Zora transitioned from Contests to COINtests — shifting focus toward tokens, secondary markets, and a new Uniswap partnership. While cool, we lost some handy DAO features, like Droposals. But our Gnars devs didn’t back down, they brewed some strong coffee, rolled up their sleeves, and cracked the code. Now it’s back. Big thanks to the dev squad!

Skatepark refurbishments

The Mini Ramp at Méier was revitalized with support from the community and Gnars. The reopening event featured heavy skate sessions and the Tricks for Decks with pro skater Ionir Mera, who rewarded the best tricks with his Gnars pro model decks.

Fun fact: Jadson Brian was a skate icon from Rio's north side. After his passing in 2020, the ramp became a symbol of his lasting legacy.

We're not just throwing up stickers. We're upgrading D.I.Y spots and skateparks where support is truly needed. These actions prioritize communities that benefit most, while also bringing the space to life with Nounish art, local music, and cultural movement. It’s not just improvement, it’s innovation with real onboarding into the Gnars and Nouns ecosystem. Special thanks to the sacred Meier ramp for welcoming this activation, and shout out to all the builders who showed up and made it happen. Gnarly things are built together.

From Chicago to Brazil: Webgnars' Trip Through Rio

Skater and builder from Skatehive and Gnars, Webgnars landed in Brazil and dove into an intense experience in Rio de Janeiro. He visited a favela that just got a skatepark built by the community itself, explored the local culture, tried traditional foods, and was warmly welcomed by Brazilians.

Alongside friends Vlad and Highlander, he lived five days of Carnival chaos in the streets, hitting blocos and samba school parades.

Last week in São Paulo, our friends at PlayDNA launched Nouns House , a brand new home for meetups, talks, hackathons, workshops, and everything that drives the crypto ecosystem in Brazil.

The Open House was dope. Over 250 people showed up to celebrate this historic moment. In the heart of Latin America’s biggest city, a hub for coders, artists, athletes, and crypto natives was born. The space was filled with art, music, sustainability, tattoos, food, and strong nounish energy.

Hosted at @loginexp, the largest gaming hub in Brazil, Nouns House is here to connect communities and co-create experiences like never before. And yes, our gnarly favicon icon was there, styling the space and adding that signature touch only CORE can bring.

What goes around comes around 🤘

Amid a turbulent landscape of political and socio-economic shifts, GnarsDAO charges into another year. Adding to the chaos, the crypto market keeps throwing curveballs, but the shredders, the winds, the waves, the spots, the tricks, the slams, and the stoke never stop.

When it comes to expansion, movement and friction at certain points make a difference. Nogglesrails are an example of this, spread across different parts of the planet, spreading culture in a certain geometric pattern.

Between Skateboarding and Technology, a Journey of Innovation

Raised on the streets of São Paulo, Pamtech had his first contact with skateboarding in 1990, and his passion was instant. The asphalt became his blank canvas, where each trick expressed his creativity. What started as fun soon evolved into a lifestyle and, later, a profession, teaching him not only tricks and balance but also discipline, resilience, and the value of a united community.

The same mindset of overcoming challenges and exploring new possibilities in skateboarding was also reflected in another passion: technology. With this spirit, he decided to expand his horizons and earned a degree in computer network engineering, gaining technical knowledge that broadened his perspective and enhanced his ability to innovate.

Pamtech entered the world of Web3 out of curiosity and quickly had the pleasure of discovering SKATEHIVE . It was there that he met Gnars, through other shredders who are part of the community, and immediately connected with the global Web3 universe.

As he began posting his videos and photos on the platform, Pamtech accumulated Hive and, as a gift to himself, acquired his first Gnars NFTs. In doing so, he joined other extreme sports enthusiasts, expanding his network in both the technology ecosystem and skateboarding.

From traditional programmer to Web3: the journey of immersion in the Nouns ecosystem

r4to, a programmer already familiar with crypto, dove into Web3 after discovering Nouns.wtf. His curiosity was sparked when he saw a Gnars PFP, leading him to explore the ecosystem and understand Ethereum’s purpose.

His turning point came alongside Vlad when they approved a proposal to create the new Gnars website. The project provided financial stability and allowed him to leave his traditional job to fully dedicate himself to Web3.

Today, he works on the Gnars and Nounspace projects. Over time, he stopped simply converting Ethereum to fiat and began reinvesting in the ecosystem, strengthening the circular economy and collective growth.

Approved for a scholarship at Flows, he quickly gathered an amount and, without hesitation, bought some Gnars NFTs. This move not only reflects his commitment to the ecosystem but also marks a significant step in the extensive development.

Gnars Products 🥷

From shirts and jackets to skateboard decks, surfboards, hot sauce, NogglesRails, and beyond. Gnars products capture the essence of the Nouns/Noggles ecosystem and the gnarly journey of our projects and athletes. The next step? Launching the Gnars Shop on the new gnars.com, bringing our onchain products together and making them available for purchase. In the future, it’ll also be linked to the Nouns Shop, expanding the reach of Nounish merch even further!

In 2025, Gnars continues to propagate the Noggles across the world, adapting to the evolving Nounish culture while shaping its own Gnarly subculture. After navigating different phases within the DAO, Gnars keeps the momentum alive fueling creativity, supporting shredders, and pushing boundaries at the same pace that this unique movement keeps emerging and redefining itself.

ETHDenver 🪙

ETHDenver 2025 was a major Web3 innovation festival, bringing together developers, creators, and blockchain enthusiasts. The event featured a gnarly activation, with BLUNTSDAO's proposal in action and an iconic presentation from the GTA IMF team. Additionally, partners gathered to build and push culture forward within the ecosystem.

Here are some shots of Tom rocking ETH Denver, representing NounSpace, a community-driven project and close ally of GnarsDAO. As the founder of NounSpace, Tom continues to push the boundaries of Nounish culture, fostering creativity and collaboration within the ecosystem. Captured in the heart of one of the biggest Ethereum and Web3 conferences, these moments highlight the growing impact of Nounish builders in the space.

GNARS x BluntDAO x DeSCIWorld: Initial Results

We took on Loveland Pass, Keystone, and Breckenridge, using Cudis Rings to track biometrics before and after smoking, and the results were!

This biohacking experiment was just the beginning! We’re expanding this research to surfers, skaters, and other athletes to better understand how cannabis impacts performance, recovery, and overall health. Our mission is clear: give athletes the tools to be more informed about their health, optimize their seshes, and push their limits.

Gnars in Nazaré – XXL Surf & Rescue

As part of an executed Gnars proposal, shredders took on the monstrous waves of Praia do Norte, Nazaré, pushing the limits in extreme conditions. Beyond the heavy drops and adrenaline, fueled rides, they also carried out a remarkable rescue operation, showcasing skill, bravery, and the true spirit of the Gnars community.

2024 WAS GNARLY! Time for a throwback!

2024 is in the books, but it left us with a ton of good times and big wins. Unity is what keeps this community strong, and every session, project, and idea came together to make some incredible things happen. From epic premieres and special videos to game changing proposals, gnarly products, and public goods, last year was one to remember. And the best part? We're just getting started…

Gnars has expanded into different areas, and through our past experiences and outcomes, we’ve identified key priorities for the DAO this year. This has helped us shape a more balanced approach growing without losing consistency and fine tuning the balance between quality and quantity.
