Bizarre Pixel Studio is a fully featured pixel art and animation editor that runs on desktop, mobile (PWA), the Base App, on Farcaster as a miniapp, and has a dedicated edition on the BizarreBeasts Kids site.

This is the story of what I built, why I built it, and the technology powering the canvas.

Why a Pixel Editor?

BizarreBeasts started as raw illustrations in my physical sketchbook, grew into an arcade of 12 games, and is now becoming an animated series on DCP+, set in Bizarre City. The thread through all of it is simple: I want BizarreBeasts to be something that people can interact with and create with.

Pixel art is the friendliest possible gateway into making things. A 16x16 grid is not intimidating. Anyone can place a square. Under the hood, I designed a system that turns this simple grid into a powerful, highly flexible creative canvas.

The Big Idea: Every Pixel On The Canvas is a Letter

Under the hood, a drawing in Bizarre Pixel Studio is actually a grid of characters. The color palette maps each letter to a specific color. For example: the letter g might be Wasabi green, k is the outline ink, and a period . represents a transparent pixel. Your drawing is literally a block of readable, plain text.

Because of this, I made the editor fully two-way:

If you want to recolor an entire image or color, you do not have to click every pixel: you can just swap a single character or hex value in the code tab. It is a drawing tool and a text format that happen to be the exact same thing.

This architecture makes your art portable and remixable in a way that traditional image files (like PNGs or JPEGs) can never be. A whole animated project saves as a tiny, readable file (.newt format) that you can copy, paste, share, and reopen with everything intact: your palette, layers, frames, and animation timing.

Bizarre Pixel Studio on BizarreBeasts Kids

The BizarreBeasts Kids page has its own kid-friendly version of the pixel studio, and I added a guided tour hosted by pixel Wasabi himself! He walks kids through picking colors, painting, animating, and saving.

The tour ends by opening the Code tab to show kids their drawing represented as letters, with an interactive decoder connecting a glowing pixel to its matching character, demonstrating one of the biggest ideas in computing: everything on a screen is flexible data you can change.

About The Artist

I'm the artist, animator, and builder behind BizarreBeasts ($BB), creating a universe where art and web3 technology converge. This is where everything I am intersects: a lifelong artist captivated by darkly humorous outsider art, a creative entrepreneur, a self-taught builder who coded 12 original games and a fully onchain miniapp from scratch, a musician performing original soundtracks, and a true BIZARRE believer in decentralized creativity.

This project was born from a vision of what's possible when an artist fully owns their creative universe, exploring the opportunities and economies that web3 enables to build a legacy of creativity and freedom for myself and the BizarreBeasts community.

Announced last week on @gmfarcaster, this grant is a significant milestone for our ecosystem and represents direct validation from the core builders of the Farcaster and Clanker networks.

What is the Clanker Ecosystem Fund?

The Clanker Ecosystem Fund (CEF) is a targeted developer fund designed to support, reward, and sustain active builders pushing the boundaries of onchain technology. The fund was proposed by Clanker creator, @dish, and is actively stewarded by the @gmfarcaster team, with trust and support from @rish and the Neynar team.

Rather than funding speculative ideas, the CEF is designed to empower active creators. BizarreBeasts was awarded the Sustainability Grant ($1,000 USDC). This category is specifically reserved for covering critical backend infrastructure costs (such as servers, API integrations, and hosting) for projects that make the overall ecosystem better, and in our case, way MORE BIZARRE.

Why I Built a Separate Site for Kids

The main BizarreBeasts app is built for a grown-up audience. That is the right home for the BB community, but it is not the right place for kids to interact with BizarreBeasts.

So I created BizarreBeasts Kids, a completely separate site with its own codebase, built from the ground up to be safe for kids to hang out on and have fun.

Sticker Studio

Kids can drag and drop BizarreBeasts stickers onto a canvas, add their own text, and build a totally original picture.

There is an easy mode with large, user-friendly buttons and a "more tools" mode for kids who want to do more with their creations. When they are done, one tap saves their artwork as a picture to the device. Nothing gets uploaded anywhere.

My work has always existed in the space between humor and intensity, where the comical and the unsettling coexist. This duality is central to BizarreBeasts, where darkly humorous characters explore the absurd and sometimes eerie aspects of being BIZARRE in a world pushing conformity.

The BizarreBeasts Empire is my way of combining these two worlds (traditional art and decentralized technology) to create something truly BIZARRE, decentralized, and shareable. Through this empire, I aim to bring together a community of collectors, investors, and art lovers who not only enjoy my creations but can also be part of a movement that supports innovation and new forms of artistic expression across illustration, painting, digital media, web3 games, animation, and other evolving mediums.

How to Join the BizarreBeasts Farcaster Channel

To join the BizarreBeasts Farcaster Channel, you must hold at least 5 million $BB tokens. This requirement ensures that only the most committed members are part of the BizarreBeasts community, fostering deeper connections and collaborations.

Once you meet the minimum, you will be able to access the channel, engage with the community, receive exclusive updates, and participate in discussions about the future of the $BB empire. As a channel member, you also gain access to our channel rewards powered by @jasperbb.

The Empire Tier System

Every member of the $BB Empire is assigned a tier based on their leaderboard position. The five tiers, in increasing BIZARREness:

Two Paths to BIZARRE

BB NFT awarded to beasts that earn BIZARRE tier through dedication!

Most ecosystems only reward whales. The BizarreBeasts Empire has two paths to the top tier:

1. The Whale Path 🐳

Hold and stack enough $BB (boosted by NFTs, LP, staking, and $BBHT) to rank in the top 25 on the leaderboard.

2. The Dedication Path 🔥

Hit a 100-day check-in streak attesting that you are BIZARRE in the BizarreBeasts miniapp, and you are granted permanent BIZARRE tier, regardless of how much $BB you hold.

Four $BB community members have already achieved this BIZARRE milestone:

The streak is tracked onchain via attestations. The system tracks your best-ever streak, so once you cross 100 days, BIZARRE is yours!

Achieving BIZARRE status through dedication also earns you 5M $BB and an exclusive BIZARRE tier NFT!

What Are Boosters?

Boosters are multipliers that increase your score on the leaderboard, helping you climb tiers and earn more rewards. They incentivize active participation and ongoing support for the project.

How Boosters Work

Boosters are associated with specific tokens, NFTs, staking positions, and partner tokens. By holding qualifying assets, you unlock multipliers that compound onto your $BB score. Boosters stack: combine NFTs, LP, staking, and BBHT for maximum effect.

This is my impact report on what has accelerated and evolved for the business and for me as a creator since receiving the award from DCP. I’m publishing it publicly because this is an incredible chapter in the BizarreBeasts story, and because the whole process of building BizarreBeasts has always been in public. The early days, development, wins, and even the losses.

The A3 Award is the most meaningful moment of my career as a creator. After years of building BizarreBeasts on the side while holding a senior business development role and supporting a family, the validation from DCP changed what I thought was possible for my creative ambitions. In February 2026, I left my corporate role to go all in. Since then, every hour has been dedicated to my BIZARRE mission of developing the BizarreBeasts streaming animated series exclusively for DCP+.

On Tuesday, May 12th at 11:00 AM EST, the first piece of that mission will go live; we are dropping the first BizarreBeasts series teaser! The animation features an original theme song written and produced by @kateyarter, and my hand-drawn artwork rendered through the BizarreBeasts production pipeline.

1. The Creator & Technical Sovereignty

My name is Dylan Yarter. I’m the founder of BizarreBeasts, an artist-led creative ecosystem built on the Base blockchain. I hand-illustrate every character. I code every tool. I built the entire BizarreBeasts platform as a solo creator.

For over two years, I've worked to bring the project fully onchain, backed by eight years of building the foundational art business behind my work. Through the process of bringing my artwork onchain and building with the available AI-assisted tooling, I have discovered the power of technical sovereignty. Owning the technology is the path to greater creative sovereignty.

To maintain ownership and scale what I create, I became a self-taught developer, collaborating with AI as my co-pilot. I spent thousands of hours building the BizarreBeasts miniapp and community hub, the smart contracts, 12 original games, and a full suite of proprietary animation and production tools. I had no engineering team. My conviction that building onchain would solidify the project's future kept me going.

2. What the Award Made Possible

From Side-Project to Studio Velocity: The A3 award transformed BizarreBeasts from a solo endeavor built in the margins of a corporate career into a high-output animation studio. The funding provided the essential infrastructure to move from conceptual art into active production. Since February 2026, every hour of my energy and focus has gone into creating BizarreBeasts animation.

Building a Production Team: The award enabled me to bring my talented wife, Kate, onto the team as a production partner, sound engineer, director, and co-writer. Together, we have logged over 1,500 hours of production work since January. I have also expanded the crew to include Hashmi, an animation rigging specialist, who has been essential in building out character rigs while I focus on creative direction, artwork, and composing animations.

Rather than relying solely on standard animation software, I built a custom BizarreBeats production pipeline from scratch. The proprietary BizarreBeasts animation studio works alongside industry-standard tools by improving how work and automation are handled.

The A3 award provided by DCP and the opportunity to publish exclusive content on DCP+ are an affirmation of what the BIZARRE community has been part of since the project's inception. It is proof of what a community-powered, artist-led on-chain project can become.

BizarreBeasts is a proof of concept for a model that matters beyond the success of a single project. The dominant narrative today is that you need a team, funding, and a marketing budget to build something meaningful and lasting. BizarreBeasts demonstrates that there is a different path. One artist, self-taught as an AI-assisted developer, built a complete ecosystem combining artwork and onchain technology. Now, DCP has accelerated that evolution.

7. What This Proves

DCP and Arts3 exist to support independent creators and prove that a better model of funding, support, and go-to-market for entertainment is possible, powered by the blockchain. BizarreBeasts is that model in action.

In the months since the award was announced, the results speak clearly: a creator who left a successful corporate career to be a full-time onchain entrepreneur, an animated series in active production, a custom studio pipeline of over 40 tools built from scratch, a kids content platform launching, a business relocating to establish a physical community of BIZARRE fans, and 1,500+ hours of documented production work. All driven by one resourceful artist and a lean team, with zero waste and total creative focus.

Creators who see what BizarreBeasts has built with support from DCP will discover a systematic path to engage with, adapt, and follow. I share the belief that drives DCP and Arts3: that independent creators deserve a voice, and that the best work comes from artists who are given the freedom and support to build without compromise. I am building BizarreBeasts to prove that is true, and to make sure this story is one the foundation is proud to tell, and one independent creators can point to as inspirational.

After two years of BIZARRE building in the early mornings, nights, and weekends, and with the validation and support of Decentralized Pictures (DCP), I’ve decided to go ALL-IN on creating BizarreBeasts.

At the end of February 2026, I left my senior business development role at a global data company to focus full-time on my creative vision! This year, my sole purpose will be to grow BizarreBeasts, scale the business, relocate the studio to a new city (more details to follow in my next update!), and produce the BizarreBeasts animated series.

I've been an artist my entire life, aspiring to create my own cartoons since I was a kid. Throughout my career, I've explored various creative pursuits across many disciplines. For the past two years, I've built BizarreBeasts in my available time in the early mornings and late nights: creating artwork, publishing content, learning how to leverage AI as my copilot to build miniapps and games, advancing my education through professional certifications in blockchain technology, and illustrating the BizarreBeasts characters and universe.

The project has a dedicated social community and token holder base, and in December 2025, DCP awarded BizarreBeasts the $100,000 Arts3 Startup Award. What started as ideas in my sketchbook has finally evolved past what I could build on the side and demands my full attention.

To meet the scale of this vision, the BIZARRE team is also expanding. I’m incredibly excited to share that Kate, my incredibly talented and beautiful wife, has joined the BizarreBeasts production team!

She is a core part of the studio’s operations and creating the series, handling sound design, music composition, directing, co-writing, and helping manage our aggressive production schedule and creative output as we transition into this next chapter.

I know... The markets are down, conflict is up, and the world seems to be getting more and more chaotic... But now more than ever, I am inspired to share creativity and joy through art, games, and animation. I have been compiling the skills and am highly motivated to take BizarreBeasts from where we are today to a globally recognized entertainment brand. I am purpose-driven and passionate about building THIS project, and I am EXCITED for the evolution ahead.

For the last three months, I've been inside the BizarreBeasts Animation Studio, building foundational tools and developing artwork for the upcoming BizarreBeasts series on DCP+.

The BizarreBeasts animated series is the most ambitious, rewarding, and BIZARRE thing I've built in my career, and a true demonstration of my mission as a CREATOR!

OVER 1,100 HOURS BUILDING

I keep a production log of everything Kate and I do for the project. In the last two months alone, we have logged over 1,100 total production hours creating, building, writing, and recording:

The BizarreBeasts animation studio is a custom-created platform that I've built to scale the business and content production in a whole new way.

WHAT "PRODUCTION BEAST MODE" LOOKS LIKE

When I say the studio is in Production BEAST Mode, I mean a fully functional, animation ecosystem:

Characters are alive. Jasper, Cecil, Hans, Angus, Cornelia, and Benny are rigged and ready, with more characters in process. They walk, dance, cook, and drink coffee. Seymour Sun is chatting it up with Monety Moon. We just wrapped a heavy recording session for Angus this weekend for Mini-Episode 2, getting a head start on the production pipeline while we finalize Mini-Episode 1.

The city is built. I’ve illustrated and created 2,100+ building sprites, 30 buses, and 22 city landmarks and special environments. All available for use in the custom BizarreBeasts Scene Builder. Bizarre City now features 12 parks, a central pond, a transit system, and a dynamic parallax weather engine that cycles through Seymour Sun and Monety Moon sequences across the skyline.

The tooling is custom. To scale BizarreBeasts this year, I built a full suite of custom creation tools:

What started as a RAG-grounded personality bot that replied to mentions is now an independent network participant. He has evolved beyond his original build as a feature inside the BizarreBeasts miniapp to become an economic actor with his own identity, his own wallet, and his own decision-making. He reads social context, generates BIZARRE replies, and executes onchain $BB transfers autonomously, all within a single webhook cycle.

What Jasper Can Do Now

Jasper has moved past simple replies. Now he has the agency to move value across the Base network based on BIZARRE community interaction and social engagement.

This upgrade is my BIZARRE submission to FarHack Online 2026, the official FarCon Rome hackathon hosted by urbe.eth and Builders Garden. We're competing in the Agentic Farcaster track, building autonomous agents that operate natively on the Farcaster feed, interact with users, and execute real economic actions.

FarHack's thesis is that Farcaster is a programmable coordination layer where agents are first-class citizens. Jasper is exactly that: a network participant with his own Farcaster account, his own Privy-managed wallet, a sense of humor, and autonomous decision-making that spans content curation, social interaction, and onchain commerce. He also helps power the BizarreBeasts Miniapp as the BizarreBeasts chatbot, and the contest system is a human-agent collaborative workflow in which Jasper handles verification, reward distribution, and winner announcements, while creators focus on making art.

What’s in the Pipeline

In the interview, we pulled back the curtain on the BizarreBeasts universe. Here’s how we’re hitting the ground running for 2026:

BIZARRE City World-Building

The animated series is an all-ages comedy set in BIZARRE City. The beasts have roommates, grab lattes at Catz Cafe, and clock in at the BIZARRE Lab. From B Block on the rough side of the city to an endless park that defies physics once you step inside, the BizarreBeasts world is taking shape.

Sound Design and the 90s Aesthetic

Kate is the project's sound engineer and co-writer, crafting original soundtracks rooted in 90s urban vibes, boom bap, and hip-hop. The sound design reflects the era’s core values: storytelling, community, and attitude.

BizarreBeasts: Learning Lab

We’re launching a spin-off for young learners (ages 2-6). Think short-form animations, interactive games, and original music teaching ABCs, shapes, and numbers with fun and originality.

Why Onchain Changes Everything

In Web2, independent creators often struggle to have their voice heard or find a productive market for their creativity. DCP+ offers a revolutionary opportunity: distribution and recurring revenue.

🤝 Powered by Remix: The Partnership That Built an Arcade

The BIZarcade wouldn't exist without Remix.

When Remix put out the call for games at the start of 2025, the I was already going BZIARRE and building. By the time the Remix Level Up Cohort was announced in the Summer of 2025, I was seven games in and hungry for more and better games for the $BB community. That three-week program in August 2025 changed everything: it's where Treasure Quest was born, a 21,812-line, 50+ level platformer that stands as a personal BIZARRE masterpiece.

The cohort transformed my entire development process from frustrating circular conversations with AI into a productive flow state. The momentum was unstoppable: Bizarre Bounce went viral (reaching #1 on Remix and Base), while TicTacToe, Memory Game, and Head Crush followed, with multiple titles hitting #1 trending on Remix.

The ultimate validation came during the Remix Snap App Summer Competition, where BizarreBeasts dominated across the board:
